The first said: No, in reality: in parable you have lost. The second said: But unfortunately only in parable. But the cares we have to struggle with every day: that is a different matter.Ĭoncerning this a man once said: Why such reluctance? If you only followed the parables you yourselves would become parables and with that rid yourself of all your daily cares.Īnother said: I bet that is also a parable. All these parables really set out to say merely that the incomprehensible is incomprehensible, and we know that already. When the sage says: "Go over," he does not mean that we should cross over to some actual place, which we could do anyhow if the labor were worth it he means some fabulous yonder, something unknown to us, something too that he cannot designate more precisely, and therefore cannot help us here in the very least. And the statue? Believe us it’s as absurd as his works.“Many complain that the words of the wise are always merely parables and of no use in daily life, which is the only life we have. There is a huge statue of Franz Kafka’s head opposite Prague City Hall to warn all who are entering the Kafkaesque experience they will have. If you want to see Kafka yourself, visit Prague. So, next time you are waiting in line in a government building filling out mountains of paperwork, remember Kafka. What does it mean? It describes unnecessarily complicated and frustrating experiences, usually ineffective and useless. The absurdity of his novels inspired intellectuals to come up with a new term: Kafkaesque. Kafka’s stories were so influential that some elements spilled over into sociology and philosophy. Photo: Public domain via Wikimedia Commons (right) Page from Franz Kafka’s diary circa 1910. And it was in the late 1960s when this influence reached Kafka’s place of birth, communist Czechoslovakia. The rediscovery of Kafka did not only influence literature but extended its reach to philosophy and politics. As Gregor Samsa awoke one morning from uneasy dreams he found himself transformed in his bed into a gigantic insect. Slowly but steadily, this influence became global. I cannot make anyone understand what is happening inside me. He greatly influenced literature in those countries at that time. The rediscovery of Kafka’s stories and novels took place in the 1960s in Germany and Austria. Thanks to his friend, who did not follow Kafka’s last wish to destroy all of his manuscripts, he became known to the world. When Franz Kafka succumbed to tuberculosis, only a narrow circle of literature enthusiasts knew his works. Both stories bring a tremendous amount of anxiety to the reader, with protagonists that are alienated from reality. Another great example is the story “The Trial,” in which we found the main character charged, tried, and executed for a crime unknown to him and never mentioned during the book. A belief is like a guillotine, just as heavy, just as light. He who seeks does not find, but he who does not seek will be found. Productivity is being able to do things that you were never able to do before. The most outstanding example is his story “The Metamorphosis,” in which the main character of Gregor Samsa transforms into a giant bug. Anyone who keeps the ability to see beauty never grows old. He became a master of working with these feelings and situations, mainly because he lived through most of them. Kafka used the art of absurdity, alienation, and anxiety in his works. He could finally leave the job he didn’t like and focus solely on writing, which was his true love. It all started with him coughing blood and ended with a tuberculosis diagnosis.ĭespite being very unfortunate, this event brought happiness to Kafka. In a letter to his friend, Kafka wrote: “my occupation is intolerable to me because it contradicts … my only occupation, which is literature. Despite being very successful at his job, Kafka despised the profession and his colleagues. in Law, Kafka started working as an insurance company lawyer in Prague. I think the zipped file is 800MB for 6 files and I didn't do the whole songs except for the Donald Byrd cut. I think it's a keeper and will keep it in all the time. But woofer pumping on warped records = badder I think.Īnyone else have experiences with this thing? Good or Bad? I understand that all filters are a compromise, but I'm not hearing it in my setup. and Audiophile paranoia tells me filter = bad. I don't have a tape loop so i can't take it in and out of circuit w/o a cable swap. Obviously because that woofer pumping does hell to sound quality. Then I spun a couple records I have with smallish warps and they sound BETTER with the filter. My setup is decently resolving and I've been spinning some "perfect" records and swapping in and out, will do some needle drops later, and I can't hear the effect of this thing. My phono pre (GSP Reflex) and my integrated (BAT VK300xSE) don't have a filter/rumble option.Īnyway, this thing kicks butt. So, I just setup one of the KAB Rumble filters on my setup. And all too often I find a pressing I want with a slight bump or slight off center pressing that causes the woofers to pump with the bump or the warp. Turntable is well isolated and the suspension is tuned as good as I can get it (Michell Gyrodec SE MKII) My speakers are ported (Totem Hawk).Īnyway, 90% of the music I listen to on Vinyl is classic jazz. First, I have no real noticeable rumble at the typical volumes I listen to and on a nice flat and centered record I can crank it and not have rumble/subsonic issues with my speakers. Once you’ve done that, go ahead and click Export and check the file size.Īs you can see, stripping down the photo’s colors to just 255 reduced the PNG file size dramatically.Īs for quality loss, here’s a before and after comparison… This information is automatically captured by your operating system anyway. Don’t worry about preserving thumbnail or timestamp data. This is all useless information that needlessly takes up disk space. Open up the Advanced column and make sure you have unchecked absolutely everything listed in the entire menu. Upon export, you’ll be prompted with the following export menu… Now, go ahead and export your image as a PNG file. Leave those values just as they are (or set those values if GIMP didn’t default to them) and click Convert. You can do this as many times as you wish.Īll uploaded data is deleted after 1 hour. This will bring up the Indexed Color Conversion menu.īy default, “Generate optimum palette” will be selected and the maximum number of colors should be set to 255. You can then upload the master file again and re-compress it. This keeps your data private and secure.Īlso, if you are unhappy with our compression output, you’ll still have your original files. Also, the server automatically purges all data after 60 minutes, so anything you upload will be deleted just an hour later. The server that operates the tool is fully automated, so no one sees the images you upload. Our compression tool is not only easy to use but completely safe. Remember that you can only do batches of 20 images at the most, but you can upload as many batches as you like. If you’re ready to perform another conversion, hit the “CLEAR QUEUE” button and start the process again. That file will contain all your compressed PNGs in one convenient package. When everything is all done, you can save some time by hitting the “DOWNLOAD ALL” button. When satisfied, hit the “APPLY” button and move on to the next image. Move the quality slider until you have found the ideal ratio of compression to file fidelity. Tap the thumbnail of one of your images to launch the manual mode. If you want to manually control the compression level, that is also an option. If you’re happy with what our server chooses, you can simply grab the compressed file(s) by hitting the “DOWNLOAD” button under the thumbnails. Our server will immediately process them and determine the appropriate ratio for quality compression. Once uploaded, you’ll see thumbnails for your PNGs in the queue. However, if you’re on a mobile device, you can also tap the “UPLOAD FILES” button and navigate to your PNGs that way. The easiest way to do this is to simply drag and drop your images onto the “Drop Your Files Here” field. The first thing you’ll need to do is upload one or up to 20 PNG files. There’s no software to download, no need to register, and no limit to the number of compressions you can do. How can you compress a PNG?Ĭompressing a PNG is incredibly simple using our free online tool. If you have a lot of PNGs on your page, compressing them to 8-bit could drastically improve your website’s speeds. Now you have a smaller file taking up less space in storage and your page will load slightly faster. Converting that image to an 8-bit palette will reduce the file size without affecting its visible quality. If your website has a simple logo that is a 24-bit PNG, that file is taking up unnecessary space and slowing down your page load time. The higher the bit support, the more available colors there are for that PNG - and the larger the file size. PNGs support either 24-bit or 8-bit colors. This is something not possible with many other image formats, including JPG. This allows you to place a PNG on top of another image and only cover specific parts of the image underneath. PNGs are ideal for graphics, logos, and other simple designs because they support transparency. The tool on this page conducts a type of lossy compression by reducing the available color palette of a PNG. On the other hand, if you remove bits that lower the quality of the file, this is known as lossy compression. Sometimes you’re removing empty or useless bits of information so the file reduces in size but it appears exactly the same. In relation to digital files, compression is the act of taking one file and making it smaller by removing bits of information. My dish was not really spicy, simply because we don’t eat spicy. I ended up using red chili paste and Smoked Jalapeño Sriracha from Wild Brine. I decided to use whatever chili paste or spicy sauce I had at home. And although my friend offered to give me some, I didn’t know if that would be plant paradox compliant (but if red chili paste is, this one I linked must be too – probably because the peppers are roasted and skins and seeds are removed) so I passed on the offer. Simply adding two tablespoons of Cassava flour to the sauce made it so creamy and thick that I wonder where the idea of adding bread to such a good dish came from.Įvaporated milk was replaced with full-fat coconut milk, vegetable oil with avocado oil, and white rice with miracle rice (shirataki rice from Miracle Noodle). Like many of the recipes, I saw online suggested using one full loaf of bread to make the sauce (whaaat?). In Romania (where I come from) is a staple in cooking, old chicken – aka hens – makes the best soups, we say.īack to Aji de Gallina, after a quick search, I knew I wanted to give it a try, although some of the ingredients were quite outrageous for a plant paradox girl (haha!). I knew what ‘gallina’ means – hen – but this is something you don’t really find in the western world. Something that is Peruvian cuisine, a family favorite and it’s considered comfort food. What I wanted was something that is less known and not really a fancy dish. Lectin free spicy creamy chicken with miracle rice, walnuts and Parmigiano And by that, I didn’t mean ceviche (which by the way is the first dish he named). I asked my Peruvian friend to tell me one dish that is signature Peruvian and everyone loves. But sometimes, like in this case, I am just being curious about what other people’s favorite foods are. Most of the time they are the result of my own travel and food experiences. I absolutely love the process of re-creating these types of dishes. Converting classic traditional dishes from different countries and regions to healthier versions, aka lectin-free, is my passion. Again, this sounds beneficial, but there are disadvantages. Application cache, sometimes referred to as user cache, includes data associated with your apps that is saved so that it doesn’t have to be loaded up every time you use the application, this means your applications can work faster. There are two other kinds of cache: system cache and application cache. The latter may be a concern for privacy reasons. One disadvantage is the fact that you could find yourself browsing an old cached version of a webpage and another is that your browser cache–which includes cookies and trackers–can give websites and advertisers information about you as you browse the web. This cache contains the data that gets downloaded to your Mac and is saved so that the next time you visit the same website some of the data is already downloaded and it won’t take so long to load up the page.Īmong other things browser cache means you can browse the web faster, which sounds like a good thing, but there are quite a few disadvantages too. If you find you delete something important by mistake, open your Trash folder to get it back. Similarly, before you empty the trash can, you can get back the items in it, and so does the Trash folder on Mac. Newly crowned Pro Stock Motorcycle champion Gaige Herrera had a season for the ages, scoring 11 times in 15 events to set a new class record and also set another record for most No. Adding drives to the front-panel bays requires only that you unscrew a single place-holder bracket, and not every Mach V owner will even become that involved in upgrading. We also can't see any other reason why you would need to undergo the lengthy process of removing all of those parts. It could be that the metal bracket holding the power button was jarred out of place in shipping to our lab. Putting our difficulties in proper perspective, you may not ever encounter this issue with your own Mach V. Counting everything we had to disconnect, remove, or unscrew from the system, we tallied 17 separate actions required to access and reseat the power button. Because of the illuminated logo on the front panel door, we also had to disconnect the power cable, which was threaded through a part of the chassis. To access the screws, we needed to remove both side panels, as well as the front panel door. Getting into the compartment required removing the front bezel, which is anchored to the case by 12 tiny screws. The button then collapsed into a compartment of the chassis that is completely blocked off from the outside. When we first went to turn the system on, we apparently pressed the button too hard. Instead, we take issue with, of all things, the design of the Mach V's power button. That system, which we liked well enough, also featured a rotated motherboard design that oriented the airflow upward. If you follow boutique PC vendors, the new Mach V case, called the Icon 2, might look very similar to the Maingear Shift that debuted at the end of 2009. We'd rather have no reservations about a PC in this price range, but on balance the new Mach V ranks among the best desktops available. None of the issues we found seems insurmountable, and otherwise this system is well built, and unquestionably powerful. And despite some clever, if familiar, design elements in the new case, we actually have some minor complaints about the Mach V's new enclosure. We'd like to see more application performance from a system in this price range, although the gaming scores from this PC set records. In addition to the new chip, the $4,818 Mach V also comes with an updated chassis, the first new case we've seen from Falcon Northwest's flagship line in several years. Now it's time for Falcon Northwest to show off the chip's performance in an even higher-end PC. We've seen how Intel's new Sandy Bridge Core i7 2600K chip performs in a $2,500 desktop from Origin. |
